Mission: The Black Rose of Winter's Embrace
Location: Stratkas IV - Outskirts of Meurdin City
Timeline: Just after "Murder on the Surface"

As Lizzy laid there on the floor of John Deban's home, Samantha Deban sat there, comforting her. It wasn't long before they heard the tell-tale sound of a transporter beam just outside the front door.

Keith Anderson and his deputy Chief Combat Operations Officer Commander Jennifer Stone headed for the scene. They both saw Captain Jey Cleh. He turned to Captain Cleh "what happened?" he asked.

Lizzy haphazardly pointed back towards the main entrance of the house. "The man in the other room was killed by the man on the floor next to you." She explained. "He tried to kill me, when I arrived."

"Step aside," a man announced to the security guards as he approached the door. The two armed guards stepped towards each other to block the door. The man was of average height and dressed in civilian turtleneck and black pants - not exactly the standard getup for the department of investigative services. The well-trained members of the security team weren't about to let just anyone march onto a crime scene.

"Ugh, alright, if this is how you want to do this, then fine." He procured a PADD from a cargo pocket in his pants. Whatever it contained seemed to satisfy the guards.

"So he tried to kill you, did he?" Galloway knelt in the corner of the room and flipped open a tricorder. The others assembled in the room seemed to be trying to ascertain who he was and what he was doing. Whatever the case, nobody replied to Everett's initial question. He finally turned to face the others.

"The name's Galloway. I'm here to do my job so now, can you tell me exactly what happened here? From the start please."

With Samantha's help, Lizzy managed to sit up, spitting a fresh round of blood onto the floor. "John Deban, and his daughter are friends of mine. When I got off duty, I had a message from him asking me to come see him." As she explained, she found herself wishing the medical team would hurry up. With all the pain, and the blood she was spitting up, she knew she was in serious condition. "When I got here, I found the front door open, and Mr. Deban had been stabbed." She took a deep breath, coughing up more blood, before continuing again. "After I announced my affiliation with Starfleet, he proceeded to beat the living hell out of me. I tried to disable him, but in the end, it was either his life, or mine."

Just as Lizzy finished her explanation, a medical team from Starbase 80 arrived. The team of two made their way in, stopping to see the dead Human, before moving on to the living area where they saw another man dead on the floor, and Captain Cleh a sitting bloody mess. "You don't look so good, Captain." the young medic said as he started scanning her with the tricorder. "How do you feel?"

"Like I had the snot beat out of me." Lizzy replied smartly. "Anymore stupid questions?"

Galloway chuckled at the response. His equipment had recorded the statement given by Cleh which would serve as a baseline for the remainder of the investigation. Should any little detail change, whether it be from fiction to fact or vice versa, he would know about it. In his experience, the recency of the trauma was best for recall. Simply put, the brain hadn't had time to repress any of the memory yet. It was likely that Captain Cleh's story was the truth unless there were some very specific circumstances, but the question surrounding a murder was always motive. Why had someone killed John Deban?

"Once EMS is done in here, I'll get to work." Galloway was blunt and to the point, but even he knew when it was time to stop asking questions. "I'll be sending someone to collect the evidence from sickbay. The uniform, medical analysis - the usual."

"Do what you have to do." Lizzy said, her voice filled with pain as the two medics helped her to her feet. "Just make sure you collaborate with Starbase personnel. He was my friend, and I'm just as interested in this case as you are."

The medics started to walk the Captain out of the house, with Samantha right on their heels. Jey was the only one there she knew, and with her father now dead, the woman was the only person she had left that she felt was family.

The young girl stopped as they reached Galloway, tapping him on the arm to get his attention. "Take off his mask." She said quietly. "His face is green." Without waiting for a response, she turned, and ran off to catch up to the medics.

Galloway paused for a moment, nodding. He had already noticed the very fact that she had pointed out, but perhaps she knew more than that. Mulling over a few options in his head, Everett made a note to have someone a bit more "friendly" to come back for the second round of questioning. The fact of the matter was, questioning was a wearisome task to him. People spent their entire lives learning how to lie without even being consciously aware of it.

The evidence? It never lied - and that's where Galloway preferred to do his work. However, there was always a personal element attached to a crime. Not much work for investigators who only dealt with machines or artificial intelligence.

"Gentlemen," Galloway addressed the guards posted outside the door. "No one touches my crime scene, capiche? I'll be back with a full team shortly. And for god's sake try and look like you're happy to be here. Can't have everyone looking like there was a murder around here."

Commander Anderson said "I agree my staff will also assist in the murder investigation"

"The more the merrier," Everett deadpanned. "We'll be in touch."

Kieth said "aye sir we will be waiting Sir" he said.
